Kubernetes (κυβερνήτης, Greek for "governor", "helmsman" or "captain") was founded by
Joe Beda, Brendan Burns and Craig McLuckie, who were quickly joined by other Google engineers including Brian Grant and Tim Hockin, and was first announced by Google in mid-2014.
