There's a rule of thumb used by rescuers : In 50 degree (fahrenheit) water, 50% of victims will be dead within 50 minutes. The water Titanic sank in was about 28 degrees. At those temperatures, hypothermia starts to set in in about 15 minutes, and death in about 30.
