Sacagawea (/səˌkɑːɡəˈwiːə/; also Sakakawea or Sacajawea; May 1788 – December 20, 1812) was a Lemhi Shoshone woman who helped the Lewis and Clark Expedition in achieving their chartered mission objectives by exploring the Louisiana Territory.
